BRECKENRIDGE EXPANSION AND IMPROVEMENTS
Last season, Breckenridge added the new high-speed six-passenger Independence
SuperChair on Peak 7 which opened up 165 acres of much-needed intermediate
terrain, including seven new trails and the famous Peak 7 glades. A tribute to
Breckenridge's colorful past, the new trails and lift represent a historic
mining theme including; Angel's Rest, Monte Cristo, Fort Mary B., Swan City,
Lincoln Meadows, Pioneer, Wirepatch and of course Independence which was the
original name for the Breckenridge area. The expansion added 30-percent more
intermediate terrain and increased overall lift capacity to 36,880 people per
hour and pushed total acreage to 2,208.
Simplifying the transfer of skiers and riders between mountains, the Peak 8
SuperConnect high-speed quad was also added to replace and extend the old Chair
4 to lower Peak 9. While guests cannot get to the chair from the base area, a
quick ride up the Beaver Run SuperChair or QuickSilver Super6 access the new
lift and whisks riders to Peak 8 terminating near the Vista Haus restaurant. A
mid-station loading point allows skiers and riders to board the lift where Chair
4 previously began.
The Breckenridge grooming fleet also replaced two existing cats and acquired
three additional Bombardier BR 2000s to accommodate the new Peak 7 trails. Two
Zaugg pipe grooming implements were added including an 18.5' radius version for
the Freeway Superpipe and an 12' radius version for the beginner halfpipe on
Gold King. Other improvements included the renovation and remodel of the Vista
Haus restaurant on Peak 8 including the addition of a popular sandwich shop
called SubFusion and a re-energized Maggie Restaurant at the base of Peak 9.
